DSX Migration from V7.5.1 to IBM Information Server 8.1

Post by prasanth_achuthan »

Hi ,

Please let me know the list of things needs to be taken care while importing the Datastage DSX from V7.5.1 to IIS V8.1.

Is it just a direct export-import. Would all the stages work properly after importing to the new 8.1. what are the areas we need to look or take care in this migration.

Thanks n Rgds,

Normally the migration is straight-forward and direct. The problem arises when you have a production environment and cannot afford to discover that you aren't part of the 99% that have no issues during the upgrade. At Version 8 there are some fundamental changes to the product and whoever is responsible for administration needs to know and understand these changes (before the upgrade) otherwise you are guarantted to have issues.

Hi, Thanks for the quick reply. Obviously there would be a production environment where the code needs to run. But it would be in the later stages.

Can you be more specific on the administration understandability and tasks. Or the list of objects that may not be supported in V8.1.

Thanks

All objects at Version 7 exist and will run at version 8; but the metadata repository at Version 8 and beyond is now separated from the old server engine and hashed files. In addition, user and process management is done within the web console of IIS. You will need to read up on this new functionality and what it entails prior to planning your new server configuration.

The short answer is 'yes', this would be a direct export/import and everything in 7.x should still work in 8.x without issue. This is provided, of course, that all 'optional' stages you are using in 7.x are installed in the 8.x environment.
