disables stages in designer - DS 7.5.1a

Post by rob47329 »

Hello all,

I recently tried to drag an xml stage to a parallel job, but I got a message saying "40906 - unable to create new object". All xml stages give this same message(no other stages though). I tried re installing the client software and I noticed a message box appears prior to the install, saying "A higher version of .net framework than 1.1.4322.0 was detected. DS client is only qualified with 1.1. User higher version at your own risk. I am wondering if this is the problem. I currently have .net framework 2.0 and 3.5 installed. I downloaded .net framework 1.1 and tried to install, but it says "cannot install upgrade patch because program to be upgraded may be missing." I have MS visual studio installed, unfortunately I am not a .net expert. I will check out some .net forums also.

If anyone has had a similar problem or knows of this issue, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Robert

Does your version of the client software exactly match the server version? I've had issues in the past, only with the XML stages, when they didn't.

Thanks for the info Craig. I checked that the client software and server software are in sync.

Looks like not having ".net framework 1.1" on my workstation is the problem. Every peer that has the datastage client installed can use the xml stages(if they have .net 1.1 installed). Those without .net 1 can't select and use the xml stages in a parallel job.

Unfortunately, my organization is reluctant to load an older version of the .net framework, due to some company wide upgrades that are coming. We will be upgrading to IS 8.0 later this year and this will probably solve the problem.

At the moment I don't have to use xml with datastage, so no immediate issue.

Anyway, thx

There's no problem with having multiple .net versions installed, it's quite common actually. Have you checked any of the MS KB articles like this one, for example? The troubleshooting link it includes may help.
