I would suggest that you first research each of these topics as a separate unit, and apply that also to your testing and learning curve. Search extensively thru the forum here on each of the thre major pieces....review the doc for each....write simple jobs that explore and test each separately before ever combining them....... ---- Your SAP IDOC.... Find out the details you need to know about the SAP PACK and what's needed for this particular scenario. Then take on the messages. Is it IBM MQSeries? Lots of things to consider in terms of size, configuration, installation, etc. Not MQ? Then you have even more research to do, as you may need to write your own interface. Same with XML. There are lots of XML entries in this forum.....
As for logically separating things, find out if the separation will be in the payload (such as in the xml itself) or in a message header field. Find out how long he Job will need to run (all day or periodically, etc.)..... these are just a couple of things to start thinking about.
