DataStage SQLServer commands thru Proxy Server

I have configured the DataStage .odbc.ini and uvodbc.config files to access a SQLServer database that resides on our internal private network without any problems. The production SQLServer database, however, does not reside on our internal network and I cannot get to thru our proxy server. The networking guys say they need to install a SOCKS proxy for this to work, however, before they do this they have asked me if DataStage is or can be made Proxy aware. I do not know if this is possible, can someone tell me if DataStage can be made proxy aware?
