Project Path in DS Administrator is blank for some users

Post by beck.ryan@principal.com »

When I am logged in as dsadm I cannot see the project path of my project in DataStage Administrator. I also cannot see the path when logged in under my personal userid but other users can view it when they log in on the same machine I am using. Have I somehow locked these id's? Also, I am not able to use the add or properties buttons when I have the project with a blank project path selected. I am able to use the add button if I select the INSTALL project but I get a "cannot create secondary indicies" error during the new project creation. I tried searching the forums without much luck. I did find one topic for the latter error but it did not have a solution and the user that posted the topic just reinstalled the server. This is my first post so feel free to give advice for use in the forums.

Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Either a permissions issue or it's your PC and its client.

If you're logged in as dsadm, you shouldn't have any issues. As an individual user I can understand variances. Having different users in different groups, with different permissions on files and directories can cause weird effects. Sometimes you can see a job, but not its log contents. Other times, you can open a job, but not save it. All of this is related to the current permissions on projects, your user group, and the umask setting on the engine.

Does dsadm work from other peoples machines? If so, then it's related to your PC and client.

If dsadm doesn't work anywhere, then it's most likely permissions. Somehow other users have more authorities than dsadm. dsadm is the only userid that's supposed to be capable of adding or updating projects.

Was DataStage installed by root or dsadm? Can you see the project paths if logged in as root?

A root install was performed setting the administrator to dsadm. Everything was working fine for all users, including dsadm, after the initial install. Only recently did I start having problems accessing the project. I do not think it is a client issue because the same issue can be recreated on other pc's. I cannot log on as root but I will talk to our unix admin, we have a unix install, and have them log on to see if it makes any difference. I have checked the file permissions on unix and everything seems to have dsadm as the owner and dstage as the group with the exception of a couple of .h files located in the projects directory. They have our unix admin id and with the corresponding unix admin group. Currently, all user are part of the dstage group, we have not addressed limiting the access to projects yet. Where does the administrator go to look for project path information. Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide to assist in resolution to this issue? Thanks for your help, it is appreciated.
