Hi Kenny... Each "instance" when multiple instances are enabled, is established at runtime, when the InvocationID is applied. There is only one actual "job" containing meta data (GenericJob), and any invocations, such as GenericJob.1, .2, .3, or .FRED are simply run-time "images" of that job with po...

Multiple instances
I have a job (GenericJob) that has multiple instances enabled. I have it scheduled to run multiple times as GenericJob1, GenericJob2, GenericJob3, etc. When I change the original job GenericJob do I need to unschedule and reschedule the multiple instances that are already set up, or will they automa...

Tom, Thanks for the response to my ORAOCIBL questions. I am running DataStage 5.2.1 on Unix 11.11. We recently upgraded from DataStage 3.6.3. It was long overdue. We do have one similar situation with truncating the table first. I was thinking subroutine at first prior to the job running but instead...

Jean-Pierre, We also use similar coding to access Oracle via ODBC in our job control routines. We had no problems when we migrated from 4.2.1 to 5.2. What exactly do you mean when you say the command doesnt work? Does it return an error? If so, what is the error? Otherwise, what are the symptoms tha...

Accessing to Oracle through Basic routines
** Reply Requested When Convenient ** Hello all We just moved to DataStage V5.2 from V4.3. I have several routines based on the code supplied in the standard DataStage documentation for "Execution of an SQL statement from a Basic program using ODBC client interface". The routines perform SQL command...

Theres a known problem whereby transferring very large packets across a LAN Manager connection can cause the DS client/server link to fail in a way similar to this error. The large transfer will occur when saving the object that represents the link of your CFF stage that has 2K+ column definitions. ...

Im not aware of any documented limit, but 2100+ columns? Sheesh! Its possible that one of the memory arrays into which the columns are mapped within DataStage is running out of space. Or simply that the size of the generated code is becoming too big (though this would tend to happen on compile rathe...

Datastage 6 and max columns
Does anyone know of limitations ( if any ) on the max number of columns that can appear in a CFF stage ? Im getting this error when saving a job that has 1 CFF as input ( about 2100+ columns as input ) being blown out into 20+ sequential files ( flat files ) for further downstream processes. I even ...

Hi Mir, Weve been using the "2nd generation ETL tools" for years. The evaluation you have is very general and not in depth. They even compare tools that arent typically compared with each other. Our preference is DataStage. We did our own evaluation of ETL tools years ago and weve updated it periodi...
