So you asked those questions of IBM Support?

That function is the equivalent of the -warn option from the command line, for use by BASIC job control code - i.e. when using DSRunJob(). Which you are not.

If sorting large files is something you need to do a lot and the DataStage sort doesn't seem fast enough for you, you could look into leveraging a 3rd party "high speed" sort package like SyncSort or CoSORT. From what I recall the latter has a DataStage module.

Also note that there's nothing really magical about the Balanced Optimizer per se, meaning it doesn't add functionality to the product that it or you couldn't already do or have - it just does it for you. "It" as in rewriting jobs to push processing up into the source and down into the tar...
