The admin guide should have said, "...on the client tier where IBM InfoSphere Information Server Client is installed." If you install the client with default options then you can import/export BG assets using istool (I'm just adding that you don't have to run a special install of those bri...

Re: istool glossary export command

We are trying to set up and schedule a script that will run the istool glossary export command. When we try to run it from the linux command line... I've done BG imports and exports from the client command line. The istool utility, when used for Business Glossary, can only be run on the Client tier...

I don't know about 8.5, but in 8.7, the "Identify Flat File" task is disabled no matter what I click on.

I ran into the same thing last year. Many stage types had been migrated from a Windows server to an AIX server. You need to remove such stage types from your repository on the UNIX server. As suggested also, try using the ODBC Connector stage instead.

Have you compared the cost of adding disk space vs. all the extra labor?

Have you considered using the Compress and Expand stages?

Looking in the IA 8.7 User's Guide chapter 5 about analyzing columns, under the "Creating a virtual table" section, it says you can create a virtual table to segment data from one or more tables. Segmentation can be vertical or horizontal... I think the User's Guide is wrong. There doesn't...

Suppose I point IA 8.7 to import all metadata from a database having 600+ tables then run column analysis jobs on all columns and all tables. Then I find out perhaps 400 tables are empty. Is there any simple way to avoid all the clutter and filter out all the empty tables, either before or after imp...

I thought 7.5.1A support ended last month (April 30, 2012). Check the IBM web site to be sure. Product Lifecycle. If I recall, the other 7.5.x versions' support ends April 2013. I would push to migrate straight to 8.7 simply to get current and maintain support.
