For DataStage specifically a proof of concept confirms that - the product has the required connectivity for your organisation. IE. The database stages, ERP stages (PeopleSoft, Oracle Financials) and third party connectors (SAS, Oracle CDC) are compatible with your versions of software and can overco...

You can put a WaitForFile stage into your sequence jobs and get them to wait for a status file to arrive. The status file tells the job that the source files have been fully transferred and can even include audit information such as file names, row counts and dates.

You need to read blog post Information Server for Dummies . (No offence meant, I am one of the dummies myself since it's a new product). DataStage is now part of the Information Server. Short answer is that the Information Server offers the cosmic all but does not have Universe. It comes bundled wit...

I hate to say it and it probably makes me a lazy programmer but this is why I don't spend a lot of time trying to get warning messages to go away. You can lose days on it and the behaviour of the job does not change one whit. Go for the message handler if you are sure the warning is not harming your...

Oh, but I used to love typing in those authorisation codes! And the end date and the number of CPUs. Guaranteed to get it in under 10 goes or my money back.

Great news for server edition users. You upgrade and get all the new functions in the metadata server for nix.

Assuming you are sending reject rows from the transformer (via Trgt_Rej_data_FF) to a sequential file the job is warning you that you are switching from partitioned data to sequential data. Each transformer across each node will have to send rejects to a link that repartitions (or unpartitions?) the...

Aha! I found it! Of the dozen or so news stories that regurgitated the IBM press release on the information server having a starting price of US$100,000 or US$125,000 there was one story that included the rather crucial piece of information of what you get at that price! Information Server will be p...

I don't think you can put rules code into a table and call it from DataStage, however you can put rules values into a table to avoid hard coding them in DataStage. For example: if a flag field can only have the values of Y or N you can have a lookup table with the values of Y and N in it and do a lo...

The press releases from IOD are quite vague on pricing. After a flurry of press releases on day 1 there is nothing from day 2. I would love to know for example how you get from DataStage Server 7.x to version 8 without paying Information Server licensing fees and I'm still hoping a dsxchange member ...

The reporting assistant does not work for parallel jobs. You need to look at the FAQ forum post on datastage job reporting options such as HTML reporting and ETLSTATS.

SOA edition (or RTI) works with both server jobs and parallel jobs so you don't have to get a parallel license. In batch mode server jobs would handle small XML files much better than parallel jobs with faster start up times. Not so sure about real time mode.

I am really hoping they merge the conferences in Australia into to a bigger conference. That might give them enough interest to hold multiple streams and get some decent entertainment!
