I've been on a DataStage DB2 project and if I had a dollar for every time I saw that error I would have been working at contract rates rather than a full time salary. Get the guide book! IBM has a DB2 Enterprise Guide for DB2 PDF that you can ask for from the sales or support teams. It is important ...

IBM supplies ERP PACKS for DataStage that make extracting data from PeopleSoft a lot easier. You need to pay an additional license fee and you get additional DataStage plugins and a PeopleSoft metadata browser. Contact your IBM sales rep for a demo and pricing.

This functionality was apparently in ProfileStage - the ability to generate DataStage jobs based on target mapping. I never saw it in action. It is supposed to be in the IBM Information Server release via the Rational Data Architect product. In Data Architect you import the source data model, create...

You can now read the entry Oracle Plunges and no one soars in the 2006 Gartner Data Integration Tools Magic Quadrant. I compared the 2005 ETL tool results to the 2006 data integration tool results. Interesting to see Oracle, Ab Initio and Embarcadero having big plunges.

I talked about this in my blog entry Is the DataStage parallel transformer evil? and my approach is to always go with the Transformer first since it is the easiest stage to use and the most user-friendly. The Modify stage can be plain nasty. It's okay if you are just doing trimming but if you need t...

Parallel jobs optimise by partitioning data in the job. This gets full value out of the multiple CPUs of server hardware. You get a benefit whenever you have more than one CPU, this can be one server with multiple CPUs, a cluster of servers or a grid. It also works effectively on USS for mainframe m...

It's tricky in a parallel job since each instance of the key generator will end on a different number, if you try to retrieve it in a transformer you will get a different answer for each node. Your problem is fixed in DataStage 8 which has settings for storing the surrogate key values in a file so i...

For a while BearingPoint was blocked dsxchange as well and we had to submit a request to get it unblocked. Some work places block all forums. Hovering over a link is a good way to view the URL address before visiting, it works in Firefox as well.

If you are using surrogate keys you cannot do it all in a change data capture stage. The stage cannot find a match, compare fields and retrieve a surrogate key. You need to keep the lookup stage and follow it with the change capture stage for existing rows.

The title of the link made it abundantly clear the content on that link. The external site was a hobby site and was completely harmless. I'm not sure why some proxy servers rejected it, probably a blanket ban of the domain the site was on.

I would have expected the FUD to come from the competitors, not from IBM itself! Old QualityStage jobs will be read only unless you keep the 7.x QualityStage server running in tandem with the new version, maybe the rep got confused. Gartner critisized IBM for lack of consistent sales messages in the...
