I've got two blog posts showing how a parallel job can be a lot faster than a server job. Just posted DataStage Tip: Extracting database data 250% faster that reports on a Developerworks article and DataStage server v enterprise: some performance stats . You can still get great performance out of se...

There is no support entry yet for DataStage or any of the other related tools. There is one for Information Integrator which advises people to run a utility for the IBM Java Runtime Environments (JRE). The product itself is not impacted. I think DataStage gets all its times and dates off the operati...

You should find everything you need to pass certification in the Parallel Job Developers Guide and Advanced Developers Guide. It discusses schemas and partial schemas in there.

If a parameter seems to be set in the Administrator and is coming through as blank in the job there is usually a minor misspelling somewhere in the process.

Cool sounding name! DataStage wont really interact with it all that much since it's a file management system. You need to hunt around and find out if anyone in the company already has collections of Unix/Linux scripts for interacting with the file transfer system so you can call these scripts from D...

When they say "ACTIVELY sell" RedBrick does this mean a work experience employee in the mail room has painted a "RedBrick for sale" and stapled it to a telephone poll in a remote part of the Urals or are the going to actively promote it?

Jobs run on the server itself and the server needs access to the data via DBMS connections or the file system. Development is done on the client but need to be connected to the server as the repository is on the server. Since it is a heavy client application you either need to replicate a developmen...

That is a bit of a crock. Charging US$48 for a PDF! What a ripoff. I can buy an entire series of Deadwood for that.

I assumed text file sources but it doesn't make a big differenct. For a text file source you can implicitely convert the data in a sequential file input stage with a reject link, or you can import it as string fields and implicitely convert it in a transformer stage with a reject link. The Sequential File input stage does support the user of a reject link with a couple options of when to reject a row. You can set a different tolerance level so that on some implicit conversion failures the row gets rejected rather than fudged.

I think the IOD 2006 download links are all gone. It's been superceded by the IOD 2007 homepage and there are just a couple 2006 information pages left. If anyone knows how to get to the 2006 download please post the link for those who have logins.
