Web Service Monitoring

Post by gsbrown »

We're currently using DataStage 8.0.1 and have approx. 25 web services enabled. What is a good practice for ensuring these web services are always "live". I'm looking for a way to receive an alert if any of the 25 web services becomes non-responsive.

Does 8.0.1 or 8.1 provide web service monitoring tools that I'm missing?
Can anyone recommend a product they are currently using? Preferably a free solution :)

Thanks,
Greg

I like to create a "heartbeat" service that I can call from a custom application every "n" minutes to be sure that the Server and infrastructure (the app server, DS Server, etc.) is still up and running....

and also....I've seen creative things done with dsjob for running jobs...they are running jobs like any other, and dsjob can check things like status....

Back in the day when I was doing RTI stuff, we went the "heartbeat" route as well.
