DataStage® Release: 11x
Job Type: Server
OS: Unix
We're attempting to import IT Asset information using the Information Server Command Line Interface (istool). These assets, including reports, are ones that we ultimately want to display in the Info Governance Catalog.

We have been successful using the workbench generate command in istool against the Sample_BIREport.csv file that IBM makes available here: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27041587

However, if we make any modifications to the file in MS Excel and then save, additional comas are added in various places that interferes with the ability of the workbench generate command to convert the CSV file to an ISX file.

Here is a sample of the first section of the template.

Before Change:

+++ BI Server - begin +++
Name,Description
BI Server,BI Server Description
+++ BI Server - end +++

After Change:

+++ BI Server - begin +++,,,,,
Name,Description,,,,
BI Server,BI Server Description,,,,
+++ BI Server - end +++,,,,,

What are we doing wrong?

It would appear that there are extra columns in Excel that are populated with "" values, and these are being exported when you save as CSV. Try to be a bit more selective with which part of the works ...

Or just remove them from Excel before saving, even if they look 'empty'.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Given the structure of the IBM CSV templates (multiple sections, some sections have more columns than others), moving the template to a txt format is what I've found to work. It does make the import process a bit more clunky (especially in comparison to the Term import process via ICG), but I was able to get this to work successfully this morning.
