Do you actively use an RSS Reader?

Post by eostic »

Wondering how many of you actively use an RSS Reader, and regularly (daily or more often) check it for updates of news tidbits, blogs or other such things that you might subscribe to.

...and if so, what reader?

Myself, I tried a whole lot of them (free stand-alone ones, ones integrated with your browser, and ones that hook up with your email client). Currently I'm using RSS Bandit, but am not addicted to it. Haven't found one yet that does everything I'd like to see. Each one seems to exploit the protocol differently.

Thanks.

I use Mozilla Thunderbird to check my favourite techie sites a couple of times a day. Its features are fairly basic, so I've been meaning to investigate the
<a href="http://forumzilla.mozdev.org/">forumzilla</a> extension.

I know a very popular one is <a href="http://www.newsgator.com/">newsgator</a> - although I've not tried this myself.

Me - not at all. I get enough things to read as it is.

I use Google Reader. I tried Newsgator and for some reason I can't remember I didn't like it. Google Reader has a mobile phone version that is very good - it's one of the better things to keep up with on a mobile device as it covers a lot of content without much bandwidth. Much better way to get newspaper headlines than standard mobile phone news sites.

Thanks all..... it's an interesting discussion. Of course, we're all techies, and I wonder if age has anything to do with our use of things like RSS technology. ;)

How many executives (such as the end-users of the BI systems many of us help build) do you think use RSS readers (knowingly)?

I agree with Ray. I do not use it. I have enough to do and read as it is.
