Information Server

Post by NBALA »

Hello All !

Just thought of sharing some information. Do we need a separate topic for IBM Information Server? (To discuss issues in Installation, migration, upgrade, and configuration information)

some general info - With the version 8 release IBM introduced the Information Server with a new look information integration suite of tools:

-WebSphereDataStage for Extract, Transform and Load.
-WebSphere QualityStage for data quality is moved onto the DataStage Designer.
-WebSphere Metadata Server is a shared repository and metadata services layer for all Information Server products.
-WebSphere Data Analyzer is a new profiling and monitoring product that replaces ProfileStage.
-WebSphere Business Glossary replaces the glossary functions of the defunct MetaStage product.
-WebSphere DataStage TX is a tool for transforming complex transactions.
-WebSphere Federation Server is the data access product formerly known as WebSphere Information Integrator. This product allows access to many other data sources through a single DB2 installation.
-WebSphere Replication Server is data replication tool for SQL-based replication and Queue-based (Q) replication.
-WebSphere Data Event Publisher is a changed data capture tool that can publish changed data to data warehouses, web applications, or other business applications.

There is no WebSphere Data Analyzer.

There is, however, Information Analyzer, which contains functionality from both ProfileStage and the investigation capabilities of QualityStage, and in future will contain some of the pattern analysis capabilities of QualityStage and some of the business rule compliance validation from AuditStage.

ProfileStage ceases to exist. DataStage Manager ceases to exist. Version Control for DataStage ceases to exist in version 8.0, but a deployment tool is promised for version 8.1 and integration with source code control (e.g. ClearCase) is postulated for version 8.2. DataStage and QualityStage share the same Designer client.
