SCD stage: Can't connect to db2 database in SCD

I am having trouble trying to connect to a db2 database in the SCD stage using surrogate key.
My datastage server and db2 server reside on two different machines.
I have tried db2 catalog and was able to connect to the remote db2 database just fine from the datastage server.
I'm able to connect successfully using an ODBC connector in other parallel datastage jobs.
However, using the same information (Database name, username, password, servername), I get "Failed to connect to database".
Is it possible to connect using ODBC in SCD stage? If so, how?
