Slow response in Data Stage 7.5 designer

Post by kaushik »

We are using Data Stage v7.5 and using local client to connect to the Data Stage server (@ client network). Our Designer is running very slow. Specially once we are modifying the compiled (Or after running)job in the designer, for each click on the stage it took around 10 seconds to react.
I know (from some posts) that if we could use Citrx application then it could be faster. But considering the currect setup is there any other way to improve the performance. Please reply.
Thanks

If you are saying that your Server is not local, i.e. is in a remote location then no, there really is no other solution.

The only option would be to use either CITRIX or Remote Desktop to increase performance. Of course, another option would be to increase the bandwith between yourself and the client.

Thanks Ray for the information. If we go for the second option (Although this is not the optimum solution, still) then what should be the recomended (if any) bandwidth for Data Stage to work, we have 6 people team at offshore, India?
Thanks

For good performance on a remote client it is typically the network latency that should be improved. Your 10-second response time is most probably the time it takes for a "click" to reach the US and travel back.

In general, DataStage is a heavy-client application that needs a broadband level connection with low-latency.

Thanks for your valuable input. I have raise this to our end client.

We are using 25 resources @ 1536 KB Bandwidth - only 6 people are working in Data Stage rest are for SAP. Is this bandwidth is enough for Data Stage to work?
Thanks

Yes, for some interpretation of what "work" might mean.

I mean - is this bandwidth within the Data Stage recomended bandwidth? Actually my intension is to identify wheather it's a bandwidth or latency problem.
If everything (high bandwidth/low latency) within the recomended level of Data Stage 7.5 then should I expect for faster connection as through citrix connection?

Is there any recomened bandwidth specification for Data Stage?
Thanks

There is no particular recommended bandwidth for DataStage client-server communication. At least 100BaseT LAN is assumed. Faster is better.
