Infosphere installation 11.7 - Using CNAME for server ref

We are planning to go from 11.5 to 11.7.
Instead of upgrading in place, we are considering building new servers, (maybe slightly adjusting the architecture) and doing a free install.
When we are ready to go live, export the projects, reimport to the new servers and move the disk over.
This will allow us to have a stress free install without having to worry about how long it will take and if it will affect anything.
An additional thought was to have CNAMES created (i.e. IIS_ENG_PROD, IIS_ENG_QA, IIS_ENG_DEV) and use those references in our Control-M scheduler, people using the client(s), Infosphere console.
THis way if we move forward, for future upgrades, we don't have to change our scheduler or anything, we just have to change the CNAME to point to new servers.
