Metadata Asset Manager - Out of Memory

Hello Experts,
I have this question for a while now, i have not been able to find the answer myself through various sources, hence posting it here with some hope.
How much heap space is really needed for Metadata asset manager imports ?
I have 12GB heap space, it seems to be insufficent for a reimport of an area that has around 10000 objects in total.
Everytime i run this import, i get OutofMemoey errors in the SystemOut.log file and a javacore file generated.
Dump Event "systhrow" (00040000) Detail "java/lang/OutOfMemoryError" "Java heap space" received
I am really curious about how many objects(size of the import area) do you guys import and with how much heap space allocated?
