Is this still true that the Sequential File Stage in the "Output" mode will always create a file?
I almost think that there was an environment variable to prevent it from creating an empty file when no records are present. Wrong?

Yup, still true and I don't see that ever changing.

it should be easy enough to know if you wrote any data and if not, delete the file?
