Using Java with IA REST API

Has anyone used Java or Javascript in conjunction with the REST API for Information Analyzer?

We have a BPMN workflow tool which allows us to insert pieces of Javascript to perform actions within a piece of software. We'd like to perform some GET operations to extract reports into another reporting application.

Any advice, tips and tricks, and things of which to be wary would be appreciated.
