.Net needed for version 7?

Post by admin »

Hi,

While installing client version 7 under Windows XP we get the message that
..Net isn't installed... Can anyone tell me if .Net is manditory for using
client version 7 under XP?

Thanks!

Wim van Dommelen.

Hi Wim,

it is manditory if you want to use the XML Pack 2.0.1. This is installed
by default :-).

.Net needed for version 7?

Post by admin »

The client is still heavily dependent on activeX (dll) components which suggests it is still an older windows technology such as VB 6.0. It does have a small xml component such as the ability to import and export using XML format, you can see the XSL stylesheets in the DataStage client directory, and the XML 2.0 pack is now standard with version 7.0. It looks like Ascential have made .Net a prerequisite to make sure XML components work correctly for all users. Otherwise you would get some ugly errors if you tried to export to XML without the .Net framework being present.

regards
Vincent

I believe that Ascential developed the 7.x client using .NET framework.
If that is the case then you would need the .NET runtime environment.

Wim,

I don't see any option to not install .NET when DS client is being
installed. I believe it is a mandatory thing. I am not sure why is
required. I got the same message when I installed the client on my XP.
I
proceeded with the installation of .NET and the rest of the installation
went smoothly.
