DataStage Designer crashes while building Sequencer

Post by jdmiceli »

Hello all,

I'm very new to the DS family of products, working primarily with DataStage right now. One thing to note up front is that I connect to our DataStage server through Remote Desktop - just in case that has any bearing.

I created a series of jobs to do bulk loads from a SQL Server 2000 db on one server to SQL Server 2000 on another server. These jobs run fine when run individually, completing in about 23 minutes when you add up the time manually for each run.

When I built the first sequencer for the jobs, I just listed them all on the screen and linked them all together serially using 'unconditional' as the trigger criteria. This also worked (with one small hiccup in compiling till I rebooted), but the processing time jumped to 1 hour and 1 minute. Is this normal?

So, then I thought I would try setting up a sequencer that checked the jobs running individually for OK status or Failed status and link the jobs to a Failure sequence condition stage and a success sequence condition stage. I was able to connect the triggers for all the jobs (13 total) to both stages, but when I started to go in and set the trigger conditions to OK or Fail as was appropriate, all of a sudden the program would just go away. No error messages - no nothing. Just gone - along with any unsaved work I might add. I broke my connection and came back in to try it again. I was able to do two or three and then it was gone again. I tried saving after each stage I modified and it still happened.

Any ideas on this? I'd appreciate your valuable input - I've already learned a lot from all you DSXperts!

Known issue. Designer 'crashes back to desktop' when working on Sequencer jobs - and there is a patch for it. :D
Brief description of problem (ecase 72758)
==========================================

It appears that the Datastage designer client crashes
intermittently when editing job sequences. The problem
has been reported with the Datastage Client 7.5.1
accessing Datastage server 7.5.1.

<snip>

Instructions for installing the patch for ecase 72758
=====================================================

This patch is a client side only patch prepared for
releases 7.5x2, 7.5.1 and 7.5.1A. These three releases are contained
in separate directories.
<snip>
Contact support for the patch, it's not something you can download from eServices from what I recall.
