Error with preferences when making a post.

Whenever I create a new topic and leave the Save Preference check box checked I get the following error:
What is worse is that I lose my original post and have to type it again, the error page only has the error message and if I go back a page the data entry boxes are all reset.Error: Unable to save preferences
