Slide-Ins

Is is just me, or is anyone else getting slide-ins at the bottom of the DSXchange screen (flogging PhpBB forum, design by Vjacheslav Trushkin, etc) and occasional slide-in advertisements on the right-hand side?

I'll try using a different browser (currently using IE9).

Does anyone know how to disable this?

I'm on Firefox and I'm not seeing it.

Some less reputable ISP's are doing slide in advertising as revenue generators.

This can occur at both ends of the web pipe.

This particular slide in is purely DSXchange-related.

They all link back to this very thread!!!
And there's a search tool that I'm really reluctant to try.
There's a cancel X which makes it go away, but it's back again as soon as you open a new screen.
There also seems to be a Twitter button, but it's not active - at least not apparently.

Thismakes interesting reading.

Maybe time for a Malware scan. McAfee found nothing untoward.

Google Chrome - no slide-ins either.

Sounds like you've got malware!

A full malware scan revealed "no issues".
A full anti-virus scan revealed "no issues".
Weird.

This week whatever it is is intercepting certain key words such as Job and converting them into hyperlinks that pop up advertising sites.

It's only on my laptop; I can still DSXchange from work and from other computers.

Further investigation is clearly needed!

Also, when I enable InPrivate browsing (which, among other things, blocks cookies) the problem does not occur.

Perhaps I'll try purging all Internet history including cookies.

Turns out it was a "harmless" ad server (not malware). Still don't know how it got onto my laptop - suspect it was one of the hotel "connection" web pages, but can't prove it. Anyway, their software showed up in Add/Remove Programs, so I did. All good since.
