I agree with most of what has been posted with regards to connect speeds and quality of sound and the like. I also agree the speech needs to slow down, whether Texan, American, the Queen's English, or any other form of verbal communication. :D

Perhaps, instead of subtitles we could focus on voice-overs for ESL users. Would it be possible to have any of our users volunteer their talent to translate the original spoken version and then sync it up with the video (or just create a new file to play of a link). Just a thought. :P

Bestest!

Modify Stage Video

Thanks for the video. We are one of those guilty parties that use Transformers much too often apparently. Now that we know a little more about the Modify stage we will begin to incorporate its use.

Would it be possible for you to make available an export of the sample job that you walked through. That would be very helpful to us here.

Thanks,
Again

PS are you taking suggestions for the next video tips, or do you have an agenda in mind already?

We'll always welcome suggestions, but make no guarantees. :)

Modify Question

I'm not sure this is the right forum for this post so let me know if not.

Can a modify stage be used to add or subtract two fields together into a new value? I'm getting the following error:

main_program: Error parsing modify adapter: Expected ';' or end, got: "-"; input:
trans_dt = trans_dt
;
store_nbr = storenum
;
wrkstatn_nbr = wrkstanum
;
store_id = storenum
;
func_id = functype
;
Prsnl_scnr_used_ind = Handle_Null(IND08, 0)
;
trans_qty = trans_qty
;
sls_amt = TotGrossPos - TotGrossNeg
;
sls_qty = sls_qty
;

obviously the error is related to the sls_amt calculation. Is this an indication that this type of calculation is not allowed in the Modify stage?

Welcome aboard. :D

It's not the right forum; this forum is for feedback about the site itself. Would you mind re-posting on the Parallel Extender forum? You can copy and paste the actual text. May I suggest "Arithmetic with Modify Stage?" as a suitable topic?

Thanks to all for the generous support and comments about our content for the site....

We are exploring ways to provide learning experiences for member with different skill levels so that the overall value of the site improves. The videos, while high tech, take longer to "get right' with all the suggestions and improvement considered. If the general feeling of the members is more topics, then we might have to consider a more basic method of delivery (Slide shows with audio).

We are also interested in volunteers to take a topic they are passionate about, and offer to let us enable you to create some content for the community. The benefit for the contributor is their immediate status within the community as a source of knowledge not one that gets their cues for top members. Second, the author will be listed a special category of membership. Hopefully this will allow member to use this recognition to land better contracts or command a higher raise come next review.

We plan to build this site to enhance each DataStage implementation so that it becomes the integration strategy of choice. Every member has a chance to help this effort.

Ray offers good points about how we fund this effort. Premium Membership by everyone you know. That help share the cost of production costs.

Thanks again to everyone!!

Hi,
Is the Modify Stage tutorial available via different link? I tried vtt/VTTIntro.php and got a "Page Not Found" error OR is it retired now?

Thanks in advance for your feedback,

Hi VCInDSX,

First, this is not the right place to ask your question? Now back to your question, you can access that video and some others if you click on the member benefits in the navigation section. Use the DSXchange Learning center link to access them.

Hi sAM and Group,
My apologies for posting this to the wrong forum.
I suppose this should have gone to the General forum...

Thanks a lot for pointing me to the correct links where I can view the videos. I was able to reach the links and resources from the Member Benefits area. That was helpful.

Thanks for your time,

Can't get any of the tutorials to work. With Ray's I just get a black screen with the word "Loading" and nothing else for minutes. With the Modify Stage I get the start button and when I play I see the title page then a black screen with the video controls and the status bar at 100%. I left it for a few minutes but it remains blank. With Ken's I get a picture of his face and the status bar at 100%. Nothing plays, dragging the bar back to the start does nothing - it jumps back to the right. Am I supposed to wait a long time before it starts playing? I'm on ADSL internet access and I've tried it with Firefox 2 and IE 6.
