Bridge to cloud would be the fastest option - IBM has released DataStage on Cloud now where you just pick a tshirt size and provision environments almost instantly. This qualifies for Bridge to Cloud pricing where you can try out Cloud pricing for a while and revert back to your current license if i...

Often a report writer makes a label for a column based on context of the report and the space they have. Usually they can abbreviate column headings or labels for ease of use. If the report is title "Customer Churn" they can have a field label called "First Name" instead of "...

There are four sets of views . CMVIEWS, IAVIEWS, IGVIEWS and REMVIEWS. IGVIEWS is terms and rules. CMVIEWS has other information assets metadata. I've written custom views in the past to pivot and flatten out custom attributes. You can also write metadata queries using the IGC query tool and dump th...

Multi Edit is one of the most useful functions in all of IGC. There are a few places in IGC where you can produce a list of business terms that can then be used to open up the multi term editor: - Use the Search function or Advanced Search function. - Click on Glossary-Terms and then use the Filter ...

I'm going to assume that what you have in your Excel spreadsheets is mapping specifications - because you don't get much lineage information out of Netezza, Cognos and ErWin alone. You only really get lineage in Cognos reports back to Netezza and lineage in Netezza views. you don't get ETL lineage o...

Cannot import a table because of an unknown data type

I am trying to import a table definition using IMAM so it can be profiled but it has a column from a GIS system set to a geometric data type and the import bridge is giving the error "Unsupported data type" for that column and rejecting the table. I would like to import the table and ignor...

I prefer to import directly from the database and not IDA so you get the metadata as it was applied to the database including any manual adjustments any DBAs or ETL jobs have made.

I don't think you will have any problems running IGC with a large number of users. You can setup most of the users to be Business Glossary Basic Users which means they can access the Glossary Hierarchy but they will not see the Information Asset menu or query or data lineage. This makes them a very ...
