In my parallel stage types (under Stage Types and not under shortcuts) I can see Oracle Enterprise and Oracle OCI Load. I can access native oracle connectivity through the Dynamic RDBMS stage. For DB2 I see three stages: enterprise, API and Load.

I don't think you missed anything, most of the answers were short enough not to get filtered. It's straight forward - DataStage handles high volumes of data and is scalable using a grid architecture, this makes it ideal for Telco data.

Stage variables will do the trick as long as the data is sorted and partitioned by the key columns A,I,s. Stage variables can hold values from previous rows as long as you fire them in the right order. Something like this: NewKey=input.name:|:input.add:|:input.loc Separator=IF NewPos<>"" THEN "/" EL...

I am currently helping to implement a data warehouse for a very large Telco. The scalability is provided by a grid based approach - able to grow up to hundreds of servers. Parallel version and grid management software makes this possible. There are design techniques for faster throughput such as sha...

A couple layers of sequence jobs - one to control the jobs in one band and one to control the layers and make sure the next band starts when the last one finished.

You would need a text editor that can search and replace multiple lines, I think UltraEdit does it. Replace one line with many or vice versa.

I imported a DataStage 3 export file into the Information Server. I think it was DataStage 3 export file, the "ToolVersion" was "3" and the extract date was 2002 and the "Exporting Tool" was "Ardent DataStage Export". Imported routines, batch jobs and server jobs without a problem. I think there is ...

You can do it and in fact if someone from IBM gives you a demo on a laptop it is likely to be XP - but as Ray says it is not officially supported. You are better off going for internal user security and not O/S security and I found it easier to install in layers - repository and domain first followe...

This month (or maybe next month) IBM are releasing the Information Server Blade. See my blog post The IBM Information Server is Software is Hardware is People! . IBM chose Red Hat Linux as the operating system, not AIX. If you are doing a wholesale switch from Windows to Linux you should consider th...

You can use a DB2, Oracle or SQL Server database repository. Those are the only options. It comes with a bundled DB2 that can be installed and setup in the installation wizard or you can leave it out and install the repository schema onto your own version of Oracle and SQL Server. The Server engine ...

Forget the company name - find a domain name! No use coming up with a great company name if the URL is taken. Just put two unrelated words together making sure one of them is dynamic and the other one gives branding - like snaplogic or razorfish (both taken). It would help if we knew what your softw...

[quote="ray.wurlod"]That was "school mascot and CANNON". At least get your imaginary facts right! quote] Pretty sure I got the spelling right - you kidnapped the mascot, dumped it in a box and shipped it to the ecclesiastical council of the Roman Catholic Church. If that isn't a canon I do...

There is a bit of a misconception about "migrating to EE Edition" - what you have done is added a parallel job license. You haven't broken or stopped your Server jobs from working. You can now convert some jobs from server to parallel if they are running too slow for you. Any server jobs running in ...

Just heard that Ray's frat house is now on double delta final warning and if they mess up one more time the dean will throw them out so fast their heads will spin. The incident with the school mascot and the canon did not go down well.
