Data Lineage steps

Ernie and Gurus, For the benefit of me and other beginners could you please outline the steps for Data Lineage. I have read through all the posts but there is bits and pieces of information. There is no step by step approach listed anywhere. To keep this discussion simple, it would be great if we ca...

more questions

Thanks Ray. I was looking at the frequency report. There are four columns in the report. 1) qsFreqValue 2) qsFreqCounts 3) qsFreqColumnId 4) qsFreqHeaderFlag Column 1 is quite obvious I think, it is the value of the column. Second is the count, but has following value for instance. 00000006 00000000...

Match Frequency

Gurus,

I am conversant with Standarize part of QS, but I am new to the Match piece. I want to know why someone would use Match Frequency. What is the significance in terms of further processing that happens.

Thanks

SCD the old fashioned way

No - there will not be 2 rows which will update the same dimension row. Let me try that option and see if it works. You can do this by collecting all the inserts in a dataset in the first job. This is necessary because if you insert and update in the same job you could potentially be updating the n...

Data file

Ernie, When you say Data file is this a sequential file? If it is how would you create a table def out of the sequential file schema? I know you can manually type it or use the orchestrate utility in DS. Assuming that you get the Tab def by one of the above methods in DS, then you right click and cr...

questions

Ernie, Can you throw some light on following questions. 1) How a shared file metadata is imported in to common repository. 2) If you are doing lineage, is DS and Extension mapping the only way construct the lineage. 3) From what I have read, lineage seems to be the biggest use with WB. Is there anyt...

BG and WB

Thanks Ernie. So either way, DS data lineage or Extension mapping business lineage, it gives out the metadata that was discovered using a DS job or Extension mapping but will not talk to BG and display the corresponding business terms. Did I understand this correctly? I guess where I am getting at i...
