Just to close this topic.

The resolution was a patch from IBM which allowed us to complete the migration successfully.

I no longer have access to the details as I have changed the company I work for since then. Sorry this if this is not much help!

We tried that but it had no effect. I have now raised a PMR with IBM in order to get this issue resolved.

I am in the process of gathering usage stats for the /tmp disc space so will let you know if this is the issue.
