it could also be caused by having ulimit set too low. On release 8 the jobs all seem to need way more file units. We were seeing really strange things happen (jobs work singly, but can't open file when run in a sequence) including fault type 11's that went away when we increased our ulimit settings...

But the same select query works fine in the other job with the same database parameters and in the aborted job if we change the database parameters it runs fine.

If you are on version 8, FORGET about using the local Repository tables alone. Somewhere in the Information Server common repository there are additional references to these objects.
