We've heard quite a few members mention concerns about being prepared for the Enterprise Edition (EE) of DataStage, formerly known as Parallel Extender (PX).
If you haven't seen EE, it is similar in concept to Server, but uses significantly
different stages and configurations for jobs.
If you want to expand your opportunities by learning EE, the Server to Parallel Transition Lab is just what you've
been looking for. Ray Wurlod, the leading poster on The DSXchange, will be walking you through labs and examples
specifically crafted to bring you up to speed on developing in EE.
The lab is scheduled to occur right after the IBM Information Integration Live! conference in November. So after
the show stay for a few days and increase your skill set. Prepare yourself for the future of DataStage! See you in Vegas!
Server to Enterprise Edition Transition is a mentored environment that will help experienced DataStage Server developers become
acquainted with developing within the Enterprise Edition (PX) parallel paradigm.
- Parallelism principles in server and parallel jobs
- Server and parallel architectures
- Data Sets and File Sets
- Orchestrate framework: operators and schemas
- Configuration: processing nodes, node pools, resources, resource pools
- Sequential files in parallel jobs
- Mandatory and optional, single and multiple properties, sub-properties
- Development and debug stages
- Combining data: lookups and other techniques
- Modifying and transitioning data
- Enterprise stages for database access
- Orchestrate shell (osh)
- Introduction to custom stages
Designing parallel jobs is a rather different skill than designing server jobs, indeed there are some
aspects of job design that need to be "unlearned" and other temptations that need to be resisted when
someone moves from designing server jobs to designing parallel jobs.
This lab is not meant for untrained developers. It begins with the assumption that the attendee is
familiar and competent with the DataStage Server job environment. Quite a few examples are based on
how a parallel job solution to a particular design problem differs from a server job solution.
A Linux server with DataStage Enterprise Edition will be provided. Students must bring a DataStage
capable laptop to the lab to perform the exercises. A wireless connection as well as some 10-baseT
connections will be made available.
