Housekeeping at the DSXchange

It’s time for some restructuring at the DSXchange.  No we’re not razing the house and building from scratch; the task is more along the lines of moving furniture and reorganizing closets.  Those of you who have frequented the DSXchange for some time now know your way around, but it’s evident that newer members aren’t always sure which direction to head.  In order to make things clear we’ve made the following changes:

FAQs

As is the case with any technology with a growing user base, questions on the DSXchange are asked, re-asked… and re-asked.  In an attempt to give quality answers to these questions and lighten the load on those who do the answering we’ve created the FAQ forums.  In short, if you have a technical question, visit the FAQs forum.  If you’d like to discuss FAQs go to the FAQ Discussion forum.  For the nitty-gritty details check out this thread.

Open Access

Currently all members of the DSXchange have pretty much equal access to everything - (yes there are some behind-the-scenes discussions that are hidden to all but the privileged few, but for the most part every member see everything)  - but that’s about to change.  Those members who filled out their profile with legitimate information when joining the DSXchange will continue to have full access.  Those who ‘rolled their fingers across the keyboard’ when filling out their profile will have restricted access.  If you’d like to continue enjoying complete access to the DSXchange take a moment to update your profile.  It won’t take long, we’ve got a strict privacy policy to protect you, and it will help the DSXchange serve you better.

The DataStage Category

As most of the traffic on the DSXchange is DataStage centric, we’ve created a DataStage Category.  In the DataStage Category are three forums:

  1. Ascential DataStage Server Edition
    • If you need info regarding how to design your jobs or job sequences this is the place to go.
  2. Ascential DataStage Enterprise Edition
    • If you’re tackling the brave new world of DataStage Enterprise Edition (DS EE) and need info regarding parallel processing and other features centric to DS EE, this is where you want to go.
  3. Archives of DataStage Users@Oliver.com
    • The Oliver DataStage list server was the place to go get answers to the most pressing DS needs for many years.  Although that service is no longer available, the Archives forum has all of the threads from November 2000 to April 2004 when the list server closed.

That covers the changes for now.  Stay tuned for future updates as the behind-the-scenes work to enhance the DSXchange never stops.
